PURO TALENTO FEMENINO CELEBRA 10 AÑOS
CDMX, MÉXICO. Building a career in radio is no easy feat, especially within a market as competitive as Regional Mexican music. However, for Gabo Linares, time and dedication have led to ten full years of active broadcasting, connecting directly with an audience that loves popular music and relies on female voices to touch hearts. Marking this milestone, on October 19, the popular radio host celebrated the 10th anniversary of his show, Puro Talento Femenino.
Broadcast on the web network Adixion Radio, the show debuted in 2014 and today stands consolidated as a dedicated platform sustained by the talent of women shaping the country's popular sound. Styles ranging from cumbia and norteño to regional Mexican and Tex-Mex are regularly featured alongside the charismatic Mexican presenter.
"The idea stemmed from an interview with singer Diana Reyes, who shared her career experiences and spoke about the lack of opportunities for women in regional music, as well as gender discrimination," Linares recalls when speaking about what inspired the project.
Throughout these ten years, Gabo has consistently championed rising talent, established female artists looking to solidify their market, and U.S.-based stars seeking a broader platform to reach Mexican audiences—who have always been recognized as vital for international success in Spanish-language music.
"(After the interview with Diana Reyes) Puro Talento Femenino was born as a space where female Regional Mexican performers could showcase their artistry. That way, rising music talents could find a channel to spread their work, while established stars could stay close to their audience and lead new generations in demanding broader representation," he adds.
Regional Mexican music recorded by female vocalists has found in Gabo Linares a vital advocate and a pioneer in elevating women's contributions to the recording industry. By placing female market influence at the center of his work, he laid the groundwork for joint efforts with influential initiatives such as Mujeres del Regional (led by Diana Reyes), Erika Vidrio's Las Compositoras, and the outlet Solo Gruperas. These platforms continue to walk a path he had the vision to foresee, cementing his position at the forefront of the movement and honoring his indispensable role in shaping the genre's evolution.
"From the day the show started ten years ago to today, there have been major shifts, new platforms, and digital media. I dare to say that women are once again occupying main-stage roles; I will remain a steadfast ally in this journey, just as I have been for the past decade," Gabo Linares concludes.
