Maintaining a cumbia style with lyrics that are uncommon in the popular sphere, La Coreañera —whose real name is Abigail— continues adding musical releases. She now presents “Jefa regañona,” a cumbia that clearly and broadly represents the sound and artistic direction she is pursuing under the Universal label.
In a world where new releases are often saturated and, in many cases, rely on covers, it is evident that La Coreañera aims to do something different: a proposal with a personal stamp that sets her apart, positioning her as an artist willing to take risks. She is a young woman who believes in her craft and found support in a transnational label willing to invest in a distinctive concept, hoping to reach an audience seeking freshness within cumbia.
“Jefa regañona” is a danceable cumbia whose lyrical structure is divided into two parts: a first section narrated by the singer and a chorus featuring a catchy melody designed to make the song accessible to anyone.
According to her record label, the lyrics are inspired by the young artist’s work experiences before entering the music world. Abigail worked in a kitchen where her boss looked for any excuse to scold her, a situation illustrated in the story portrayed in the song.
This anecdote gave rise to the track now presented to the public as “Jefa regañona.” The single is supported by an official music video featuring La Coreañera alongside her coworkers in the kitchen, all set to the rhythm of cumbia.
The release follows her participation in Azteca’s La Granja VIP, which helped her gain popularity among audiences who prefer traditional media such as television and who previously did not recognize her as easily.
