"ENAMORADA" - EMILY
SPECIAL FEATURE. “Enamorada” is the title of Emily's third studio album and also the work that ultimately defined her career. It is the production that lifted her far above the standards of the 1990s, thanks to the outstanding work of producer Carlos Alvarado and the remarkable voice of a performer who was only seventeen years old at the time.
The recording quality is perhaps the first aspect worth highlighting. The project became a key piece not only in Emily's career but also in understanding the keyboard-driven grupera cumbia that dominated radio during that era. Recorded and post-produced at DISA Studios in San Nicolás de los Garza, the album brought together compositions by leading songwriters such as Lupe Esparza, Miguel Ángel Estrada, Salomón Robles, and Gilberto Ábrego.
Its sonic aesthetic remains remarkably futuristic, with each track possessing its own atmosphere and identity. The project successfully modernized a musical movement that was already successful but needed fresh ideas to continue evolving.
The first promotional single, “Vaquero guapo,” became an instant sensation. Its innovative arrangement blended tex-mex influences with grupera cumbia elements, helping Emily reach the highest levels of popularity and becoming essential at dances and live events across Mexico and the United States.
Subsequent songs such as “Peleando,” “Para qué esperar,” “Amándote,” “Mentiras,” “Como mi sombra,” and “Solo a ti” showcased the versatility of an artist capable of moving seamlessly between cumbia, pop-influenced ballads, and modern grupero sounds without losing her identity.
The album's only cover, “Tómame,” reimagined the song made famous by Alix Bauer, while tracks such as “Enamorada,” “Me tienes loca,” “Recuérdalo,” and “Cómo te voy a olvidar” confirmed the extraordinary maturity and artistic growth Emily had achieved at such a young age.
Released in 1997, “Enamorada” remains one of the finest examples of what could be called elevated grupero music, a work whose production, engineering, songwriting, and vocal performances continue to stand as a benchmark within the golden age of the genre.
