"LA PENA"
Monterrey, Nuevo León, MÉXICO. Major cities like Moyobamba, Mexico City, and Barcelona are tuned into the same beat thanks to the collaboration between Los Mirlos, La Coreañera, and Funky Munchies, who present the hit “La Pena.” The track fuses Peruvian Amazonian cumbia, Mexican sonidera, and Barcelona’s hip‑hop funk into a single musical piece that transcends geography, generations, and builds bridges between cultures.
“La Pena” is part of The World Meets Los Mirlos, the new album by Los Mirlos, featuring some of the most relevant artists in Latin American and global music: Juanes, Bomba Estéreo, La Lom, Monsieur Periné, Toy Selectah, Chicha Libre, Guaynaa, 311, and Los Bunkers, among others.
The song speaks of an ancestral remedy: uvachado, an Amazonian liquor made from grapes and herbs, traditionally used as a balm for emotional pain.
Because some sorrows cannot be expressed with words, and Latin American popular culture has long known how to soothe them — with music, with community, and sometimes with a drink that warms from within.
The single was released on digital platforms on May 15 and has received excellent public response, along with strong acceptance of the official video.
Funky Munchies are considered by Latin American critics as one of the most important collaborative platforms for Latin hip hop and funk. Their debut album, Funky Munchies, features 18 guest artists, including major hip‑hop figures such as McKlopedia, Remik González, Niña Dioz, Metalingüística, and urban artists like Vikina, Fuxbeat, and Mr. Pauer.
The project’s creator is Ginope, a multidisciplinary artist, singer‑songwriter, composer, and producer from Lima, now based in Barcelona. His style breathes funk and hip hop, fused in a fresh, energetic, and unmistakably personal way.
